What are we learning this half term?
Our new topic this term is ‘Down in the Woods!’
This term we will be reading a range of stories which include: It’s the Bear, Peace at Last, Little Red Riding Hood, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and The Gruffalo. We will be talking about the characters, ordering the stories and acting out the events.
Our Maths work will include counting, number recognition, subitising, comparing amounts and shape work. Please help your child by looking for numbers in the environment whilst out and about. See if you can find any shapes and say their names.
We will be continuing to listen to sounds in the environment and will use percussion instruments to create our own sounds.
Our Topic work will include building dens, planning a picnic, baking activities, exploring different occupations, drawing skills and using our senses to explore different materials.
Our PE day is Friday. Please send your child to nursery wearing their PE pumps on Fridays. Children are not allowed to wear earrings or any jewellery for Health and Safety reasons so we ask that these are removed before the nursery session. Thank you.
Our topic this half term is 'I am Special'.
This half term we will be making new friends and settling into a new learning
In Literacy we will be enjoying a wide selection of stories which include Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly, My Mum and Dad make me Laugh and What I Like. We will be developing our listening skills and singing lots of nursery rhymes whilst learning the actions to help us remember the words. There will be a huge focus on our language and vocabulary as we learn and understand new words.
Phonics - We will begin work on our phase 1 phonics which will primarily focus on environmental sounds such as, the telephone, birds tweeting, fire engine sirens etc. The children will be encouraged to explore both the indoor and outdoor learning environment as part of their ‘listening walks’. Pupils will also discriminate between loud and quiet sounds whilst immersing themselves in the natural world around them.
Maths – During our maths sessions we will develop categorising skills, sing a range of number songs and include numerals and fingers to support us. We will also consolidate the names of colours.
At home: Please spend some time talking to your child about their 5 senses and help them to name different parts of their body. Please talk about family members and the connections they have with yourself and your child. Ask your child to recall some of the special times you have shared together. These discussions will help with your child’s learning in school.
