Year 1 Ladybirds
Welcome to the Year 1 Ladybirds!
My name is Miss Umerji and I am delighted to be teaching the Year 1 Ladybirds this year. Mrs Hester and Mrs Stirzaker will also be helping us in Year 1. At the bottom of our class page, you will find lots of important information such as our class bulletin, homework grid, curriculum overview and lots of useful websites to support learning.
* PE - Our PE day is Wednesday, however, it is important that PE kits are in school at all times.
* School Library - The Ladybirds are timetabled to visit the school library every Monday lunchtime. Don't forget to pick up a loyalty card for the chance to win a new book from the SMSJ bookshop!
* Homework is given out every Thursday and should be returned on Monday. All children have a homework book with a homework grid for the half term. Homework includes: home reading (3 parent signatures required), spellings (test every Monday), a phonics workbook activity and one other piece to be completed.
Our value this half term is RESPONSIBILITY. Don't forget to complete your values task at home - it could be included on our next newsletter!
This half term, we will be learning...
This half term we will be reading the story 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. We will be exploring the main characters, settings and events of the story before orally retelling it. We will then create our own innovative version of the story. Following this, we will learn about non-chronological reports and we will write our own report.
This half term we will be working on our place value within 10, addition and subtraction.
Every morning from 8:40 - 9:00, children get the opportunity to consolidate their Maths skills and learn new skills by completing a Magic Maths activity. Within this activity they will answer questions, which increases their knowledge and confidence.
This half term our topic is Penguins, Possums and Ponies. Within this topic, we will be studying Geography and Art and Design. The children will learn about hot and cold areas of the world. They will also learn to build a 3D animal model using clay.
Within our topic of Penguins, Possums and Ponies, we will be learning about animals and their basic structures. We will learn to sort animals into groups (mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians). We will also be looking at seasonal changes and the weather.
