Nurture, Inspire, Achieve!

Litter Leaders

Through Class Council Meetings, we have identified a concern with the level of litter scattered around our school.  We are going to work together on this to try to improve this not only for our school, but also for our local community.  We want to be proud of our area!

Litter Posters

We held a litter poster competition where the winning posters are displayed all around the outside of our school, to encourage people to put their litter in the bin - or 'Dunk the Junk' as stated on the winning poster!  Please see below to view the posters.

Litter Leaders Club

We have also set up a 'Litter Leaders Club' where different children go out every Thursday morning with Mr. Mick, our Site Supervisor, and another member of staff to pick up litter and put it in the bin.  They are making a massive difference!  Thank you to everyone who's helped out so far!

Letter to the Council

We created an Action Team to write a letter to the council, telling them what we've done and asking them for their help in the matter.  In response to this letter, Sally, the Environmental Education Officer from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has been in touch!  She attended one of our Comms Team Meetings where we discussed how we can work together.  Sally has links with 'Keep Blackburn Tidy' and has provided us with some red bin bags, disposable gloves and graffiti wipes for whilst we are out picking litter.

High Visibility Jackets

In December, we included a request in our newsletter for sponsors to provide our Litter Leaders with high visibility jackets.  We not only wanted our Litter Leaders to be safe whilst outside serving the community, but we also wanted to let people know who we are and what we are doing.  We were contacted by Watson Ramsbottom Solicitors who very generously agreed to become our sponsors!  Thank you so much Watson Ramsbottom Solicitors!

Our high visibility jackets have our school logo printed on them, along with our club name and the name of our sponsor.  Take a look at the photos!  Don't they look great!

Support from Pepe's

Whilst out and about picking up litter, we noticed that a lot of the litter was from the take-away across the road from school (Pepe's).  Our Communication Team (Comms Team) have worked together to write a letter to the customers of Pepe's telling them all about our aim to keep our local area clean and tidy.  In the letter we ask the customers of Pepe's to help us by remembering to put their rubbish in the bin.

On Thursday 22nd June 2023, three of our Comms Team met with the manager of Pepe's to ask him if he would be willing to staple our letter to each customer's bag when they staple the receipt to it.  The manager was very happy to do this.  The children also asked if they could design a poster to put up in their window, asking customers to put their rubbish in the bin.  Again, he was more than happy to do this.

Thank you for your support Pepe's!
