Year 6

The RE curriculum is built around three main strands consisting of  ‘Believing’ which focuses on Religious beliefs, the teachings, sources and questions about meaning, purpose and truth. Expressing is the second strand which considers Religious forms of expressing and questions about identity and diversity. The final strand living is based around how people live out their beliefs through practices, ways of life and the values and commitments linked to them.

Year 6

The question posed in Autumn 1 ‘Is it better to express your beliefs in arts and architecture or in charity and generosity?’ supported through the QRE Unit of ‘Expressing Christian faith through Art is part of the expressing strand and builds upon the learning in previous years of ‘Which times are special and why?’ EYFS. Year 1 ‘How and why do we celebrate special and sacred times?’ from Year 3, ‘Why are festivals important to religious communities?’ Year 3 and from Year 4 ‘Why do some people think that life is a journey?’.

 

The unit of study for Autumn 2 is the QRE Unit of Christmas, which builds on the knowledge gained in all the previous years   In Spring 1 Year 6 investigate the question ‘What matters most to Christians and Humanists?’ This is part of the living strand and develops knowledge gained in year 4 through the question ‘What can we learn from religions about deciding what is right and wrong?’

Spring 2 the children answer the question ‘What difference does it make to believe in Ahimsa, grace and/or Ummah?’ This is taken from the strand living and builds on knowledge gained in Year 2 with the question ‘How should we care for others and the world, and why does it matter?’

 

 

‘Is it better to express your beliefs in arts and architecture or in charity and generosity?’ is the question posed in Summer 1 This is part of the strand expressing and is further enhanced by the study of the QRE Unit ‘Loss, death and Christian hope’. This builds on questions asked in EYFS ‘What times are special and why?’ ‘How and why do we celebrate special and sacred times?’  Year 1 ‘Why are festivals important to Religious communities?’ Year 3 and from Year 4 Why do some people think that Life is a journey?’      

The QRE Unit People of Faith is studied in Summer 2.
