Nurture, Inspire, Achieve!

Global Neighbours Award

Global Neighbours Award

We are delighted to have achieved Bronze Award status in Christian Aid’s Global Neighbours Scheme. The accreditation scheme celebrates schools that are helping pupils learn about global poverty and the responsibility to tackle it, as well as giving them the tools to play a confident part in creating a fairer world.  Our full assessment report can be read by clicking on the link above.

St Michael with St John CE Primary School is committed to nurturing the values and attitudes of our children.  Through ‘courageous advocacy’ and ‘global citizenship’ our approach to education embodies an ethos of action-taking, challenging injustice and becoming agents of change in the transformation of ourselves, our relationships and our communities from the local level to the global.

As a school, we have decided that the School Council, Communication Team and Pupil Leadership Team are going to work in close collaboration in order to achieve an accreditation by Christian Aid - 'Global Neighbours'.  Together, we are going to work through each stage of the accreditation, first achieving the Bronze Award, moving on to the Silver Award and finally achieving the Gold Award!  Here are a few ways in which we intend to do this:

Locally, we are providing long-term support to a charity called Nightsafe – a charity who helps homeless people in Blackburn, between the ages of 16 and 24.  This charity was chosen by the children in our school via a Class Council Meeting. Please see the 'Nightsafe' tab below for more information.

Also locally, we are concerned about the level of litter around our school.  We are working hard to reduce this, not only for ourselves but also for the local community. Please see the 'Litter Leaders' tab for more information.

We have also begun to look into the problem of unsafe driving and parking around our school, as we feel that this is a major concern to the safety of our pupils.  Please see the 'Unsafe driving/parking' tab below for more information.

As differing opportunities arise with regards to supporting other local and national charities, such as Blackburn Foodbank, Children in Need and Comic Relief, we endeavor to support them as much as possible.  Please see the 'Additional Charities' tab below for more information.

Globally, we have decided to provide long term support to The Bethany Project – a charity in Tanzania who gives a home and schooling to children who have lost their parents.  Please see 'The Bethany Project' tab below for more information.

Our School Council, Communication Team and Pupil Leadership Team have decided to work closely together to take action, challenge injustice and become agents of change in the transformation of ourselves, our relationships and our communities from the local level to the global.
