Writing at St Michael with St John is taught through a process based on Talk 4 Writing along with the Literacy Counts 'Ready Steady Write' English Scheme.

During the initial immerse stage of writing, pupils are immersed in the story/text language through the use of story/text maps until they internalize the language of the text. During this stage, there is a focus on creating interest to engage and excite the children.

The process then moves on to the analysis stage where the main focus is on unpicking the text by discussing the writer's knowledge. 

The children then focus on the planning stage and are taught how to effectively plan their writing to meet the end of unit outcome.

The final stage is the writing stage where children use their plan and the knowledge gained throughout the unit to write their own piece based on the focus text.
