STEM Day (Spring 2021)
STEM Day
Spring 2021
During our STEM day, our pupils explored the work of Sir Isaac Newton. Our KS1 pupils investigated the concept of gravity, whilst our KS2 pupils investigated his three laws of motion. They were then introduced to these scientific concepts in a real life context through rockets. Firstly our pupils investigated what life is like for astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS), before designing, making and testing their own straw rockets. They then measured the distance that their rocket travelled, recording their results accurately with appropriate units. Pupils in KS2 were then challenged to convert between different units and calculate the mean average of their results. Finally pupils evaluated their rockets, documenting their successes and next steps to improve the distance their rocket could travel.
