Year 1
Year 1 Rationale
Pupils begin their artistic journey experimenting and becoming more proficient in drawing and painting using a variety of media. These skills are further challenged in the application to different Artistic methods including sculpting and printing. Through exploring a wide range of techniques using colour, pattern, texture, shape and form, pupils will begin to think critically when inventing their own pieces of Art. Critical thinking begins with a focus on what the pupils like and dislike about their own and their peer’s creations of Art. Our pupils are further exposed to a range of great artists including Tanya Russell, William Morris and Leonardo da Vinci. In Year 1 pupils also become emerged in a range of sophisticated artistic and evaluative vocabulary that they will revisit as they progress through Key Stage 1.
