Nurture, Inspire, Achieve!

Year 2

The RE curriculum is built around three main strands consisting of  ‘Believing’ which focuses on Religious beliefs, the teachings, sources and questions about meaning, purpose and truth. Expressing is the second strand which considers Religious forms of expressing and questions about identity and diversity. The final strand living is based around how people live out their beliefs through practices, ways of life and the values and commitments linked to them.

As in Year 1, Year 2 follows the theme of ‘connecting’ religious link which have previously been studied in EYFS.

How should we care for others and the world, and why does it matter? Enhanced by the QRE unit ‘Jesus, friend to everyone’ Is the focus for Autumn 1 under the strand of ‘Living’ this follows on from the EYFS question ‘What is special about our World?’

In Autumn 2 the QRE Unit of study is Christmas which develops the ideas studied in Year 1.

Spring 1 begins continues the focus of ‘Believe’ through the question, ‘Who is a Muslim and what do they believe? This builds on the learning from the Year 1 area of study ‘Who is a Christian and what do they believe?’ The QRE Unit of Easter provides an opportunity to deepen knowledge gained, in the Year 1 study of Easter.

In Summer 1 children investigate the question ‘How can we learn from sacred books?’ This is part of the ‘believing’ strand, which is further enhanced by the QRE unit of focus ‘The Bible’.

The believing’ strand is developed further in Summer 2 where the children are posed the question ‘Who is Jewish and what do they believe?’
